Grade 2xxx Alloys
Composition
The principle alloying element in Grade 2xxx Aluminium Alloy is Copper, accounting for up to 6.8% by weight. Additional alloying elements include; ≤2.60 Lithium, ≤2.30 Nickel, ≤2.00 Lead, ≤1.90 Tin, ≤1.90 Magnesium, ≤1.50 Iron, ≤1.30 Silicon, ≤1.30 Manganese, ≤1.00 Bismuth, ≤0.80 Zinc, ≤0.50 Zirconium, ≤0.35 Chromium, ≤0.20 Titanium & ≤0.15 Gallium

Weldability
Grade 2xxx Aluminium is not best suited to welding in the lower alloys, although some success may be had with Arc and Spot welding techniques. However, in the upper alloy of 2219, excellent welding may be achieved by most common methods, especially in the T tempers.
Machinability
Grade 2xxx Alloys are easily machined, especially in the T tempers.
